Back Online!

Well, I’m back online. I had a false start with AmeritechSBC Yahoo! DSLAT&T Yahoo! DSL … no wait… they still answer their phones as SBC Yahoo! DSL.

Even though I’m only a few blocks from the fastest growing Christian university in the country, and in a heavily populated area, I cannot get DSL. SBC waffled for three days running tests and eventually their Micigian office decided (and shouldn’t all important decisions come out of the Michigan office), that it’s not possible for me to receive DSL.

I was surprised. My mom, who lives on a street with three other houses, fifteen minutes away from a town with a population of 1,800 people was able to get DSL. Seriously, SBC, what the hell?
So I cancelled right away and signed up for cable Internet.

The speed seems to be about the same, and a nice perk for the next three months is that I have nearly every channel on digital cable. Seriously, I have more stations than God himself, I think, including such selections as The Military Channel and C-SPAN 3. Wow! C-SPAN 3!!! Mark your calendars now for an intervention. Once the promotional period ends on July 1, you’ll need to pry the digital cable box from my cold, cold grip. I’m crying out for help to you right now.

Your mom has DSL? Man…how did she get that lucky? I don’t think my parents have the coverage, and we’re like…3 miles from your moms. Does she go through chequamegon? Let me know…it would be wonderful to show my parents how internet really SHOULD be.

My mom’s with CenturyTel. I’m just as shocked as you are that she has DSL out in the boonies. And she’s shocked at how fast it is.
